The New York City trio known as The Fiction play a brand of disjointed
hardcore
that art students clamor over, as the outfit's 10-track release
liberally apply
touches of Refused, System Of A Down, Fugazi, and Jawbreaker as shards of
razor-sharp post-hardcore. Dissonant riffaging on "The Ballad of Tim and Dawn"
gives the band that left of center feel, while "27" displays the band's
ability
to bring the atmosphere down without losing an ounce of intensity. While The
Fiction isn't providing anything overly provocative or unique, this unit's
spurts of maddening metallic angst and subtle unmelodic punk rock
stance make a
fine listen for the louder times of the day
