welcome to the internet home of waking records. i know, i know...
do we really need another DIY record label? well, this is my
attempt to make it all mean something more than just awesome
records. this is meant to be more than simply sharing ideas
and raising awareness, which are critical parts of what we must
do, but should be the means, not the ends. if it all stops there,
at awareness, what does that do? what is the purpose of highly
conscious passivity, and isnt that even worse than ignorance?
we must give our language a life beyond words, give our actions
meaning, and give our intentions action. we must wake up from
our dreaming and act. if we dont, our dreams just die.
if we keep them locked inside, trapped in the safe cycle of
preaching to the choir our ideas will drown in themselves. we
are part of something bigger than a safe, secluded scene and
we must not hope to merely save ourselves and secede from the
world around us. we must be the spark.
i guess
that is my self-important mission statement
waking records
is my attempt to make this all a little more meaningful in
the larger context, unite theory and practice, and allow what
we do to benefit more than just those people who listen to
it. it is a project born out of need, a need i have to have
two important parts of my life to coexist and complement each
other, and initially a need for supplies at the school where
I teach.
this label will always be
a benefit label. 100% of all waking records profits will be
donated to a cause chosen by the bands and label. in an effort
to continue building a meaningful community of people collaborating
towards a common goal, i am primarily interested in releasing
split records and collaborating with other labels.
