This Ship Will Sink puts forth 6 amazing metalcore
tracks. They come from a school of metalcore that we don't have
here in Europe. This is a typical US metalcore sound of that new
breed that mixes raw but ultra technical brutality and on the other
hand never loses a certain subtleness. There are millions of subtle
elements to be discovered in every song and there are like a zillion
of time changes. This Ship Will Sink play emotional and mathy metalcore
and are one of the best in the genre. The band consists of members
that came from The Assistant and like The Assistant This Ship Will
Sink is very brutal and tender at the same time. This flavour is
probably the main reason why the bands of these kids (that started
out with You and I) gets more reaction from the emo violence/screamo
scene than the metal/metalcore scene. I absolutely thought it sucked
that The Assistant broke up, but the debut from their new band kicks
ass. Also the artwork is pretty cool. This is absolutely recommended.
Check out one of their lyric explanations and bow down for TRUE
amazing force behind the three-piece This Ship Will Sink: "On
October 7, 1998 Russel Henderson and Aaron Mckinney approached Matthew
Sheppard in a bar. They drove him out to a field and beat him to
near death. They tied him to a fence and left him for dead. Matthew
was found the next day and taken to Poudre Valley Hospital where
he died 5 days later on Oct. 12, 1998. he was 21. America is a country
that prides itself on providing rights for all and preserving democracy.
Ironic that it's still a country where people are murdered and denied
basic human rights because of there sexual orientation. I wrote
this song after Matthew Sheppard died as a reaction to how angry
I was that live in a world where these things occur."
