up until i heard this record, i had not heard either of these bands
before, but based on how i felt about what both evan at waking records
and josh at mccarthyism have put out, i was intrigued to hear this.
scent of human history have these rhythms that seem to build up
a bit and go into bursts of screamo and then goes back to quieter,
more jammed out rhythms. you get a nice sense of mid-90's emo mixed
in with a bit of today's screamo. it's pretty neat to hear how the
time periods of sound merge together. i do have to say i love when
these guys go into longer jammy/spacey parts. they do this very
very well. overall comparisons would be to bands like fugazi and
pg.99. they did a good job and i enjoyed what i heard!
next up is memory as perfection.
MAP also has a very laid back feel to them, with quieter jammed
out jazzy parts in their songs that build up more and more into
bursts of rock. with shouted vocals (that do sound like an angrier
d. boon, i will agree with the press release!), it has this overpowering
feel that keeps you listening.
i am definitely looking forward
to hearing more from both scent of human history and memory as perfection.
they both have great sounds and if this split is a testament to
anything, it is that they're going to only get better and better.
do yourself a favor and grab this one, it's not to be missed.
